PARENTS OF TRAYVON MARTIN AND FAMILIES OF LOCAL VICTIMS OF SENSELESS CRIMES TO HOLD PUBLIC MEETING AND VIGIL IN LONDON

New York, NY Monday, May 7th 2012 – This Friday May 11th the parents of Trayvon Martin (Tracy Martin and Sybrina Fulton) will hold a peaceful public meeting and vigil in London with the families of local victims of senseless crimes of prejudice. The public meeting, organized by the Million Hoodies Movement for Justice, JusticeTM.org, and Occupy London, will be held at the University of London Union from 3pm – 6pm (BST) and will be immediately followed by a peaceful silent vigil in front of Trafalgar Square. from 6pm – 8pm (BST).

“Weʼre honored to have been asked to help organize this gathering of families from different backgrounds, communities, and countries,” said Daniel Maree, founder of the Million Hoodies Movement for Justice and organizer of the Million Hoodies March for Trayvon Martin in New York City. “We originally chose Buckingham Palace because it is home to the Royal Family, who, as a family and as the head of a family of nations, can understand the love and sadness Trayvon's parents feel for their son as well as the love and loss felt by society in the face of injustice. But due to logistical constraints we will instead gather in University of London.” added Maree.

Participants are encouraged to wear hoodies to both events as symbols of support for justice for Trayvon Martin and all victims of institutional violence and discrimination. People around the world and those who cannot participate in person are encouraged to take pictures of themselves in hoodies and upload them through Twitter or Instagram using the hashtag #millionhoodies and #hoodiesup, or on the Million Hoodies for Trayvon Martin Facebook page.
